Sorry, dudes =(

A lot of entries are friends only. Post here to be added. I'll try to keep game-related stuff viewable by everyone (if anyone reads this stuff anyway)!

10NL

ok I stopped pissing around on .01/.02 tables. I started playing 10NL with the occasional 25NL table, and while it started out well, I've been on a losing streak this past week. After returning from PAX I've lost roughly $70-80. I feel like these micro stakes are just absolutely horrible and a waste of money cuz people will call you all the way down to the river with a small pair or terrible draw and end up sucking out on you. Scun has been having the same problems. He lost a lot the other night b/c he ran into set over set a few times.

I've started watching some CR videos, but I'm still getting used to applying what I've learned to how I actually play. I understand how to choose a table now and know when to leave. I wish I had more time to invest into this game, but I have to work.

Anticipation, curiosity, anxiety, FFXIV

With the announcement of FFXIV at E3, there has been a lot of commotion on the BG v1.0 front. Thread posts, tweets, emails, instant messages, text messages, phone calls, forum posts... Everyone has been trying to find old friends, including myself, for a grand reunion in 2010. I've talked to people I haven't heard from in the three years since I left FFXI.

Why is FFXIV such a big deal? It's a chance to reunite with friends from FF days of old and do the things we once loved, but hopefully this time around Square Enix has learned how to make an MMO more than just a time-sink.

A lot of people are skeptical right now, but give it time. I'm sure more people will go back than we could ever expect. Curiosity gets the best of us sometimes because we're human.

I have high expectations for this game. While some are trying to not get their hopes up too high, I think I already hit the top.

One thing that IS bothering me, however, is my age. When I started playing FFXI I was 19 years old. I'm going to be 26 by the time FFXIV is released next year. I'm at an age where most people are starting their careers, settling down, buying houses, & not playing video games.

Well I guess screw normal societal obligations. I'm going to be a tarutaru.

Hold 'em

Things I've learned over the past week or so

1. AK preflop RAISEY DAISEY

2. Amarok taught me how to do some easy math for the turn/river. Ex. I have two diamonds in my hand. Flop is two more. I have nine possible outs if no one else has a diamond so 9x4 on the turn = ~36% chance, and lets say I get the diamond so 8x2 = ~16% chance on the river of getting a diamond. That's not completely accurate but close enough to give me an idea of where I stand.

3. Twentytwo says read books and forums, talk to lots of people. He's given me some helpful links like http://www.pr0crast.com/2+2.NL.Anthology.v1.htm which basically points to all the useful stuff on 2+2 forums. I have Thursday and Friday off, so he said I can maybe sweat him on one of those days.

4. Patience. This magazine I'm reading says I need to be ok with making money very slowly. When I first started I'd play whatever hands I thought looked ok just b/c folding is boring. Now I just play a couple of tables at once and take it easy. I've gotten more accustomed to recognizing strong starter hands. Unfortunately, I still find myself falling to people's bluffs and folding when I have the better hand. That'll improve with experience.

5. Position is important. Small blind, big blind, under the gun, middle position, cut off, on the button. Some hands you would play differently depending on your position and how everyone else played. Ex. If I have a pair of tens and I'm under the gun, I wouldn't raise (pre-flop). I have no idea if anyone else has a strong hand. If I have the same hand on the button and everyone else has just called, I can probably assume they have weak hands and raise.

6. Bankroll management. This is something I see mentioned every where. It seems like it's common sense, but I imagine a lot of people do get caught up in the game. I don't picture this being a problem for me since at this point I'm not exactly rich, but should the day ever come where I have a few thousand dollars... Basically if I have $20k, I don't want to do any more than a $1k buy in at a table. If I double up and get to $21k I should call it a night. This sort of goes hand-in-hand with the patience thing.

I can't really think of anything else to add right now, but these are the more important things I've picked up on lately. I was going to make a poker blog on the site 22 uses, but it looks like it costs money to post there. F that.
